How to Rest: A Retreat for Heart-Centered Leaders

A soulful weekend retreat to nourish yourself so you can show up in your life and leadership work with more ease, resilience, and groundedness

Co-facilitated with Heather Burns, Alderroot Healing and Renewal

Heart-centered leadership means supporting the growth and well-being of your people while simultaneously holding the larger vision or goals of your work. It is no small task. Without regular opportunities to rest and regulate, it’s easy to tip into symptoms of burnout: physical or emotional exhaustion, detachment from the work or from others, being easily overwhelmed by daily demands, or feeling less effective in your role. The most effective leadership begins by attending to your own nervous system and one of the best ways to do this is through intentional rest.

When we take the time to honor and tend to our own needs, we can show up more whole-heartedly to our work and to those we support. And we can show up in all areas of our lives with more wholeness, more joy, and more balance—able to meet the demands of our lives with more groundedness and ease.

At this retreat you will join a small group to intentionally slow down and rest as a form of healing from the internalized beliefs and dominant systems that keep us feeling trapped and exhausted. With the beautiful Pacific Ocean as our companion, we will engage in rest practices such as gentle movement, individual and group reflection, guided meditation and deep rest practices, and meaningful earth connection invitations. There will be plenty of open time to nap, walk on the beach, read a novel, soak in the hot tub, or ocean-gaze with a hot cup of tea.

During our time together we will explore:

  • What is rest and how do we get it?

  • How do dominant, internalized norms of grind culture impact our ability to rest?

  • How does authentic connection, reflection, and vulnerable conversation support rest?

  • How does rest support us to cultivate compassionate resilience in the face of life’s demands and stressors?

  • How can aligning with the earth during the winter season support rest?

  • What does it feel like to turn off our phones and rest from digital distraction?

This retreat will be held in a spacious and cozy beach-front house with beautiful private rooms, lovely group spaces, a hot tub and includes healthy plant-based meals and snacks. This is a great retreat for solo travelers or come with a friend, partner, or co-worker and share the magic.

Cost: $850-$1200 depending on room. Options include: Private oceanfront room with king bed and private bath, private room with shared bath, shared room with shared bath, shared king bed with shared bath (best for friends or partners!).
